Request summary
Transitioning to renewable energy is one of the most pressing policy issues in the Pacific region. Pacific SIDS face distinct challenges in transitioning to renewable energy, including limited resources and infrastructure, high dependence on imported fossil fuels and vulnerability to climate change. High-quality energy statistics and balances and GHG inventories play an important role in providing the data needed for effective policies for renewable energy transitions and climate change mitigation in Pacific SIDS.
Pacific SIDS requested the Pacific Community and the United Nations Statistical Institute for Asia and the Pacific (SIAP), with who we are organizing the workshop, to provide assistance on energy statistics and balances. The workshop aims to further build capacities in the region for the compilation of energy information in support of just energy transitions and climate change policies.
