Request summary
UNDESA/DISD is supporting the growth of the creative economy in South
East Asia and the Pacific, with a focus on social inclusion and in the context
of AI and digital transformation, with the aim to leave no one behind,
especially women, youth and persons with disabilities.
This initiative emanates from the decision to support UNGA resolution
A/RES/78/133 (2023) on promoting the creative economy for sustainable
development, which UNDESA/DISD has already followed up on with two
initial National and Regional interventions in Indonesia 2024 and in 2025.
Following the two technical workshops, and in the anticipation of an
upcoming Development Account project, UNDESA/DISD is planning a policy
advisory mission to Cambodia, Indonesia and Fiji. Whereas Indonesia is a
key partner which has led the way with the adoption of the UNGA
resolution, Cambodia and Fiji have expressed their interest to encourage
social inclusion through the growth of the creative economy.
The policy advisory mission will be a unique opportunity to exchange with
key strategic stakeholders from Government, the private sector, workers’
organizations, civil society and development partners of the three
countries and to explore potential for further collaboration, notably in the
aftermath of the second world summit for social development.
Critically, the mission will 1/ serve as an opportunity to identify local focal
points for the implementation of future activities; 2/ review the plan
activities on the creative economy with UNRCs, line ministries (Culture,
Creative Economy, Labour etc); and 3/ align workplans with UNESCO, ILO,
UNCTAD and other key development partners. It will serve as a be a unique
opportunity to explore potential for further collaboration, notably in followup
to the Second World Summit for Social Development.
