Notes
UNSD has supported Member States in building capacity for SDMX-based reporting and dissemination, especially for MDGs and SDGs. This has led to the development of SDG dissemination platforms in several regions, funded mainly by extra-budgetary sources. RPTC has played a growing role, notably through a successful UNSD-ESCWA initiative in the Arab region. However, many developing countries still require advanced training to fully leverage SDMX.
Additionally, UNSD will support the implementation of the ABAS Monitoring and Evaluation Framework, adopted at the 2024 SIDS Conference, by disseminating ABAS indicators and metadata.
Request summary
UNSD is preparing use cases to demonstrate the dissemination of data and the integration of SDG metadata into statistical outputs using the SDMX standard. This initiative focuses on (1) creating a dissemination platform using the SDG SDMX API to disseminate SDG indicators that are part of ABAS framework separately and (2) linking SDG metadata with the UNdata mobile applications to enhance the accessibility and usability of statistical information. These use cases can be used in workshops and guide participants through the process of extracting SDG data and metadata and integrating them into digital products. To support this, UNSD plans to (1) develop a platform to disseminate SDG indicators that are part of the ABAS framework separately and (2) update both UNdata Android and iOS apps with the latest available 2025 data - these updates will mirror the content of the printed Pocketbook publication. For each included SDG indicator, the apps will feature direct links to corresponding metadata, enabling users to explore definitions, methodologies, and sources seamlessly.
To ensure a fully functional and user-friendly experience, UNSD also plans to address several technical issues identified by both internal and external users in the SDG user interface, APIs and metadata related components of the system. This project not only enhances the visibility and utility of SDG data and metadata but also promotes best practices in data and metadata integration and digital dissemination using SDMX standards.
The proposal covers the contractual services needed to develop the ABAS framework user interface, update the UNdata apps and fix some components in the SDG infrastructure, including SDG metadata.
