International Frameworks for Integrity and Anti-Corruption

This course examines the importance of anti-corruption efforts for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals as well as the role and history of anti-corruption conventions. Participants will learn about international and regional conventions, including the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC), the only legally binding universal anti-corruption instrument.The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development embraces a set of institutional principles that together can provide the backbone to good governance, and thus help reduce the risks of corruption. These principles comprise accountability, transparency, participation and inclusion.
This course explores key international frameworks that promote integrity and combat corruption globally. It examines major anti-corruption conventions, such as the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC), and the roles of international organizations in setting standards and supporting enforcement. Participants will gain a foundational understanding of global anti-corruption efforts and how they influence national policies and practices.
This course is based on the Toolkit on Transparency, Accountability and Ethics in Public Institutions that is part of the Curriculum on Governance for the Sustainable Development Goals, developed by the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs.
