Request summary
The main idea is to implement the UN DESA OG macroeconomic modeling project in the Philippines by building national capacity for fiscal policy analysis through training, involving key government agencies and academic institutions, and establishing a sustainable local expert network.
Philip Tuano requested support from the UN Country Office in the Philippines for an upcoming UN DESA training on the Overlapping Generations (OG) model, scheduled for August. The training is a technical capacity-building workshop using an open-source model tailored to national data to analyze fiscal policy scenarios (e.g., crisis response, tax and spending policies, public investment, and demographic shifts).
The training will be co-hosted by the University of the Philippines School of Economics (UPSE) and the Ateneo School of Government (ASOG). Their role includes identifying participants, supporting opening/closing events, and continuing model use post-training. The project will cover costs for venue, national consultant, and other logistics.
Also,
Marcelo LaFleur from UN DESA outlined the process: initial consultations in-country, online training, data calibration, and a 1-week in-person training focused on running policy simulations. The aim is to build a network of national experts who can adapt and apply the model for policy use in the Philippines.
