The mission aims to support final consultations on the draft Statistics Act, which seeks to modernize the national statistical system. It is scheduled to take place over three days, from 10 to 15 June 2025. The draft Statistics Act, developed under the leadership of the Ministry of Finance and through an inclusive national process, aims to enhance coordination among producers of statistics, strengthen professional ethics, and align Sri Lanka’s legal framework with international standards, including the Fundamental Principles of Official Statistics.
The mission will facilitate bilateral and multi-stakeholder consultations, provide strategic advisory support, and help ensure that the final version of the draft legislation is technically sound, institutionally accepted, and conducive to the production of high-quality, timely, and disaggregated statistics
