Request summary
The United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA) is supporting countries in the early stages of social protection digital transformation by piloting newly developed capacity-building modules. Building on the successful pilot workshop in Zambia (November 2024) - as part of a PDF project that contributed to advancing a capacity building framework to support countries in their digital transformation towards integrated social protection - UN DESA is now responding to a request from the Government of Tanzania to organize a similar workshop in Dar es Salaam in 2025.
This two-day workshop will bring together 20 national experts working on social protection policy and information system integration across government. It will aim to strengthen national capacity to design, implement, and monitor digital social protection strategies and will include a new session dedicated to the global intergovernmental context on digital transformation and its role in addressing social development challenges—delivered directly by DESA staff and Economic Policy Research Institute (EPRI) experts working with DESA on the development of the training tool.
The workshop will pilot three technical modules:
1. Relevance and Foundations of Digitalization in Social Protection (including global trends and intergovernmental agendas on digital transformation)
2. Needs Assessment Framework and Institutional Mapping
3. Key Performance Indicators for Digitalizing Social Protection Processes
This technical cooperation initiative aligns with DESA’s mandate to promote inclusive development, strengthen national institutions, and support the implementation of the 2030 Agenda and its commitment to leave no one behind.
