Request summary
UNSD has been requested to participate as a resource person in the meeting of the Africa Specialized Technical Group on National Accounts and Price Statistics (STG AGNA-Price), hosted by the African Union Institute for Statistics (STATAFRIC) in Tunis, from 18 to 20 November 2024. A key component of this meeting is capacity building, aimed at assisting countries in developing their national strategies for the implementation of the System of National Accounts 2025 (2025 SNA). This will enhance the technical capabilities of national statistical offices, ensuring the production of high-quality and reliable data, which is crucial for informed decision-making and policy development.
The meeting will bring together Heads of National Accounts Departments/Divisions, who are members of the Africa Specialized Technical Group, National Accounts experts from the Regional Economic Communities, and National Accounts experts from UNECA, AfDB, UNSD, AFRISTAT, IMF AFRITACs, ACBF and observers from the PAS II Service contract, INSEE, Statistics Sweden, and Statistics Norway.
This meeting will discuss key themes in relation to the 2025 SNA: a) the status of 2008 SNA implementation; b) long-standing and new data source challenge; and c) preparation for the adoption and implementation of the 2025 SNA. The deliberations will inform the recommendations on the 2025 SNA which will be presented to the Africa Union Committee of Directors General of Statistics in December 2024.
The meeting is expected to enhance participants’ understanding of the new changes related to the 2025 SNA and their impacts on the compilation of macroeconomic aggregates. Furthermore, it will increase participating countries’ capabilities in developing their national strategies for an effective implementation of the System of 2025 SNA.
