Notes
In response to this request, DPIDG organized a Workshop for the appropriation of the theoretical framework and definition of the structure of the Climate Land Energy and Water (CLEWs) model in Cameroon on 13-19 June 2021. As a result of its intervention, MINEPAT expressed its interest and commitment to integrate the CLEWS modelling into the National Sustainable Development Strategy 2020-2030 review process and strengthen institutional arrangements.
The Workshop was organized by UN DESA, UNDP Cameroun and UN ECA, aiming to introduce the concepts and fundamental principles of the CLEWs approach and to define the appropriate structure of the CLEWs Cameroon model. It was attended by over 28 participants, including analysts from the Ministry of Economy, Planning and Land Planning (MINEPAT), the Ministry of Environment, Nature Protection and Sustainable Development, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, National Institute of Statistics, National Observatory of Climate Change and Ministry of Water and Energy amongst others. UN DESA/DPIDG facilitated a discussion on the process by which institutional arrangements would be put in place to embed CLEWS modelling into the policy planning process in Cameroun. The Workshop resulted in promoting the analysis and evaluation of the links that exist between energy, hydraulic and agricultural systems as well as their impacts and their vulnerability to climate change. 1819C Project Page: https://unpan.un.org/node/1082
