Request summary
The request is based on an overall demand from National Statistical Systems (NSS) overall in developing countries for support in producing more timely and disaggregated SDG indicators. As a response to this, the Data for Now initiative was established in 2019 with strong endorsement and support from the UN Statistical Commission in 2020 and 2021.
The Data for Now initiative aims to develop countries’ capacities to deliver the information needed by local and national policy and decision makers to achieve the 2030 Agenda and make a positive difference in people’s lives. To this end, it supports members of the national statistical systems in primarily developing countries to collaborate more effectively with local, national and global partners to leverage innovative sources, technologies and methods for the streamlined production and dissemination of better, more timely and disaggregated data for sustainable development. This initiative is coordinated by the United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD), the World Bank, the Global Partnership for Sustainable Development Data (GPSDD), and the Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN TReNDS). For more information, visit UNSDs project website: https://unstats.un.org/capacity-development/data-for-now/
In addition to the overall mandate, there are a number of concrete country requests submitted, some still in the process of being formalized, which are or will be attached to this overall demand/request.
