Transparent Public Procurement

Transparent Public ProcurementPublic procurement is one of the largest areas of public spending worldwide. When managed transparently and ethically, procurement promotes fair competition, ensures better services and infrastructure, and supports broader public policy goals. Due to its scale and complexity, it is also vulnerable to corruption. This course focuses on the critical role of transparent public procurement in combating corruption and fostering good governance. It explores how effective procurement systems not only safeguard public resources but also contribute to sustainable development. Participants gain an understanding of what public procurement entails, why it matters, how corruption infiltrates procurement processes, and what tools are available to ensure transparency and accountability.
This course is based on the Toolkit on Transparency, Accountability and Ethics in Public Institutions that is part of the Curriculum on Governance for the Sustainable Development Goals, developed by the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs.
