This initiative aims to strengthen UNRC/UNCT capacities for
the analyses of transboundary economic risks, economic
transformation, debt management and fiscal issues reflected
in CCAs in selected countries. It will leverage DESA’s
analytical tools and products - including economic forecasting
and policy messages of the World Economic Situation
Prospects (WESP) and the World Social Report (WSR) - and
the regional outlooks and analyses produced by the UN
Regional Commissions (RECs) to strengthen macroeconomic
analyses relevant for CCAs. The analyses of the socioeconomic
impact of COVID-19 conducted by both DESA and
RECs will also be a major input to this effort.
The overall goal is to support the UNRC/UNCT to effectively
use and translate global and regional economic outlooks and
risks to develop country specific policy guidance. DESA will
work in partnership with interested RECs to deploy respective
knowledge, expertise and analytical capacities first to support
the RC/UNCT in the selected countries and then to scale up
support to other countries across regions.
